How do I change my username?

Answer
There is currently no method for changing usernames online. You can email us a choice of one to three names you would like to use and we will be glad to make the change for you. Our email address is support@getitgone.net.

How do I view a posting?

Answer
Simply click the category you would like to browse. Once you find an ad you would like to view, click the Ad Title in the title column of the page. The ad details will then be displayed with all the contact information for the seller as well as any images for the ad.

How do I renew my account or change my contact information (email, phone or address)?

Answer
Login to the site, click on the Profile link on your menu. Here you can edit your profiles information. You will not be able to modify your account's membership type. Once your membership runs out for the given account a new account must be created. This is for security purposes.

How long will my ad stay on GETITGONE.NET?

Answer
Ads stay on the site depending on the package you purchased.  You may also remove an ad before by de-activating or deleting it.

Can my business post items on the site?

Answer
Businesses may post items on GETITGONE.  Business Accounts are charged at the rate of  $199.00 annual or $39.00 per month. See also banner ads section below.

Can postings be changed or updated once they are listed?

Answer
Login to your account, then click the Manage Your Ads menu item. Click on the edit or delete option on the right; make sure you click Save after making changes.

Can postings be removed once they're listed without deleting them?

Answer
No, the ads are considered to be active until they either expire or you delete them.

Will I receive a registration confirmation?

Answer
Upon completing the initial registration process you will be prompted to enter your payment information. If this step of the registration process is skipped or fails, you will not receive your confirmation. To complete the process just log onto the site and you will automatically be prompted to enter your payment information. Only then will the confirmation be received and your account activated.

I created a posting, pressed save but its not listed. What happened?

Answer
Your posting must be approved before it will be posted on the site. We require this to keep our site clean for the public.

How do I upload images for postings?

Answer
Typically, when choosing images for postings certain criteria should be followed: Images uploaded for postings should be of the type jpg or gif. To facilitate upload times images should be no larger than 320 X 240 Pixels (4.4 X 3.3 Inches) or 20 Kilobytes. Naming conventions should be simple and concise. The Image 1, Image 2 and Image 3 at the bottom of the screen each have a button marked "Browse…". Click the "Browse…" button and a Choose File window will pop-up. Navigate to the picture location (usually desktop or My Documents folder) and select the image file by clicking the "Open" button on the window. The path name to the file will now appear in the text field. Once you press the "Save" button the listing and picture will be posted.

How do I reduce the size of my photographs for before posting my item?

Answer
Use an image editing software to change the size of your photos. The Instructions below are for MS paint.

Click Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint

Click File Open, and open your photo file.

Click Image Stretch/Skew and decrease the size of your picture (for example 40% for both vertical and horizontal) click OK

Save your photo and load it onto your GetItGone posting.

Why can't I log out of GETITGONE?

Answer
In Internet Explorer (process is similar for Netscape) choose "Tools" from the menu bar and "Internet Options...". In the "Temporary Internet files" group on the "General" tab press the "Settings..." button. At the top select the "Every visit to the page" option under "Check for newer versions of stored pages:". Now press "OK" and "OK" and close your browser. Re-start the browser and logon to the site.

Is my credit card number safe if I pay online?

Answer
Yes. During the payment portion of the account registration or upgrade process Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol is employed for transmitting your payment information. SSL uses private key encryption to encode the credit card number. The encoded number is like a secret code that uses a password to decipher the number when received by the payment processing company. Both Internet Explorer and Netscape navigator support SSL to keep confidential data private. To verify if a site uses SSL, look at the site address. It should be proceeded by HTTPS instead of the HTTP used on non-secure sites.

I've forgotten my username and password. How do find out what they are?

Answer
There's a neat way to find out the username. Put your mouse inside the "text" field for the username and double click it. This will pop up a list of all the usernames that have ever been put into the field on that particular computer. To retrieve a lost password email us at our support site (Support). We will require you answer some additional questions to confirm your indentity and we will then reset your password for you.

What should I do when I receive Spam/Scam email?

Answer
Here are a few tips:

Never reply to Spam or suspicious buyers' messages, even when they entice you to reply to "remove" you from their mailing lists. Often the instructions are either bogus, or a way to collect more addresses. Replying confirms to the spammers that your e-mail address is active, and you may receive even more junk mail.

Don’t flame (send a rude message) or mail bomb the spammers address. Many spammers forge e-mail addresses to hide their real identity, so you may be flaming or bombing a nonexistent account or, worse, the account of an innocent person.

Don’t buy or sell anything through unsolicited advertising by e-mail, even if the product is something you want. By buying you legitimize spam, and thus add to the problem. Moreover, many of these offers are fraudulent.

Report the Spam to SpamCop by going to http://spamcop.net/anonsignup.shtml . You will have to register to use SpamCop, but the service is free.  You can also report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/

How many listings and images can each member have posted?

Answer
Members can have up to ten items at any given time. Once the 10th item has been listed no further ads can be added until previous items are deleted. Each ad may have up to three images at a time.

How do I get my banner ad or business card on the site?

Answer
Scan and send your banner ad or business card to us via email (support@getitgone.net) or to our office(P.O box 16833 Bristol, VA 24209.) We can also design your banner ad for you ! We will link your ad to your website or email address. The charge for a classified banner is $50.00 per month (we require an initial payment of $150.00 for the first three months.) Call 423-791-4467 now to make your payment; as soon as we receive your payment your banner will be online. Increase your business awareness and repeat purchases!

How do I renew my annual membership?

Answer

You will need to create a new account and membership after your current membership expires. We require this for security purposes.

Tips
Online classifieds successful selling tips:

Short precise ads work better. GETITGONE allows longer ads, but that does not mean you need to place longer ads. Give only the REAL FACTS about your product.

Your primary goal should only be to get the prospective customer to contact you for more information. DO NOT try to sell your customer on your product in your ad. Just lead them to you.

Add clear photos to your ads. Ads with photos sell faster. GETITGONE allows three photos per item.

Include the right PRICE- where possible.

Post your item only in the correct category (Please let us know if you need a category added to the list) 

Make your product appear unique to all other similar items that are listed.

Spark an interest or curiosity with your item; make someone want to know more about your item.

Use a descriptive title that will interest the reader, use the ad to spark curiosity. People don't search for "This is the Best!" or "For Sale" "Free" "Reduced". Avoid ALL CAPS. 

Refresh your items once a week until they are sold. As in all advertising, you have one chance to grab the customer.

Do not SPAM your ads, that is post the same ad over and over and over and over and over and over...get the point?. In addition, research has shown that customers who see the same ad many times in a row do not respond. NO ONE likes a spammer.

Have you received any phone calls or emails regarding your item? How many times has your item being clicked on? If your ad does not attract results, change the wording with the next posting. Find the words that get you results.

Make sure your contact information are always up-to date. Click on edit account to update/change personal details.

Use action words (i.e. Now, Amazing, Attractive, Confidential, etc.). These words call the customer to do something.

Never reply to suspicious emails or callers. Do not transfer anything to a buyer until you have the cash in your hand. If possible, document (save emails) all the messages, transactions between you and the buyer. See the section on Spam/Scam above.
